Duke Ai

Duke Ai, 22nd Year

Chapter 22

In the twenty-second year, in summer, the fourth month, Zhu Yingong fled from Qi to Yue, saying, "Wu is cruel and without justice; they detained my father (Zhu Huangong) and established the son (Zhu Yingong). The people of Yue sent him back (to restore his position). The crown prince Ge fled to Yue."

In winter, the eleventh month, on the dingmao day, Yue destroyed Wu. Yue requested that the King of Wu (Fuchai) be allowed to reside in Yongdong. The King of Wu declined, saying, "I am old; how could I serve a ruler?" Thereupon he hanged himself, and the people of Yue took his corpse back with them.
