Duke Zhuang's Ninth Year
In the ninth year of Duke Zhuang, in spring, the people of Qi killed Gongsun Wuzhi.
Duke Zhuang of Lu and a high officer of Qi formed an alliance at the place of Ji.
In summer, Duke Zhuang of Lu attacked Qi, intending to send Prince Jiu back to take the throne, but Prince Xiaobai of Qi (Duke Huan of Qi) had already entered Qi first.
In autumn, on the day of Dingyou in the seventh month, Duke Xiang of Qi was buried.
On the day of Gengshen in the eighth month, the army of Lu and the army of Qi fought at Ganshi, and the Lu army was greatly defeated.
In the ninth month, the people of Qi captured Prince Jiu and killed him.
In winter, Lu dredged the Zhu River.
In the ninth year of Duke Zhuang, in spring, Yong Lin killed Gongsun Wuzhi.

In autumn, the army of Lu and the army of Qi fought at Ganshi, and the Lu army was greatly defeated. Duke Zhuang of Lu lost his war chariot and fled back by changing to another carriage.
Qin Zi and Liang Zi, carrying the duke’s banner, lured the enemy at a fork in the road, and as a result, both were captured by the Qi army.
Bao Shuya led an army forward and made a demand, saying: “Prince Jiu is a relative of our lord; please have your lord kill him. Guan Zhong and Zhao Hu are enemies of our lord; hand them over to us so that we may make mincemeat of them and be satisfied.” Thereupon Lu killed Prince Jiu at Shengdou. Zhao Hu committed suicide over this. Guan Zhong requested to be imprisoned, and Bao Shuya accepted him. When they reached Tangfu, Bao Shuya released him from his bonds. After returning to Qi, he reported the situation to Duke Huan, saying: “Guan Zhong’s ability in governing the state surpasses that of Gao Xi; he can be made to assist the lord.” Duke Huan followed this advice.
