Chapter 48

In the pursuit of learning, knowledge increases every day; in the pursuit of the Way, desires decrease every day. Decrease and again decrease, until one reaches the state of non-action. Through non-action, nothing is left undone. The governance of the world is always achieved by non-interference; once one acts (interferes unnecessarily), one is no longer capable of governing the world.
