Scope of Application

This Privacy Policy describes how Orient Smile ("we") handles information related to the following services (collectively, "the Services"):

• The website https://www.orientsmile.com/ (online display and reading of Chinese classical classics)
• The Orient Smile series of mobile applications (reading apps for classics listed on the homepage and tool apps such as Zhouyi Divination; Android versions are listed in the table below, iOS links to be determined)

Apps: Data Stored on Your Device

Except for the third-party services described below, Orient Smile mobile applications store the following information on your phone or tablet via Android DataStore, local files, and other means, without uploading it to Orient Smile's servers:

Classic Reading Apps (e.g., Huangdi Neijing)

These apps are offline-first reading apps for ancient texts. Data stored locally includes:

• Content language and interface reading preferences (theme, font size, font type, line spacing, character spacing, etc.)
• Bookmarks and chapter unlock status (including chapter IDs unlocked after watching rewarded videos)
• Text highlights, annotations, and notes
• In-app search history (retains up to the last 10 entries per content language)
• Text-to-speech settings (speed, selected system TTS voice; reading is handled by the device system, not our servers)
• Ad-free subscription / in-app purchase unlock status (if you have purchased)

The text of the classics is bundled within the app installation package and can be read offline.

Zhouyi Divination

This app provides tools such as Yijing divination, Bazi chart calculation, and the Chinese almanac, with content primarily based on local assets. Data stored locally includes:

• Interface language and theme preferences
• Divination records (method of casting, original hexagram/changed hexagram, query content, timestamp, etc.)
• Ad-free subscription / permanent in-app purchase status (if you have purchased)

The birth date/time or numbers you enter in tools like Bazi chart calculation or number-based divination are used only for calculation during that session and are not saved to local records by default (except for divination records you actively save).

Permissions requested by the apps include: Internet access, Google Play Billing — used for ad loading, purchase verification, and related network operations.

If you have enabled app backup (allowBackup) on Android, some local data may be backed up with your device or Google account, depending on your system and Google settings.

The following third parties may collect or process information, subject to their respective privacy policies:

Google Play and Google Play Billing

The apps offer optional in-app purchases (e.g., ad-free subscriptions). Payment is processed by Google; we only receive confirmation information to fulfill the purchase and do not receive your full card number. Please refer to the Google Privacy Policy.

Google AdMob (Advertising)

The apps may display banner ads via AdMob; classic reading apps may also display native ads within the reader and rewarded video ads for unlocking chapters; Zhouyi Divination may display interstitial ads in scenarios such as the results page. Google and its partners may use the advertising ID, device information, and approximate location inferred from IP address to serve, measure, and prevent fraud, subject to your consent and device settings.

• You can manage ad personalization in Android "Settings → Google → Ads"
• Privacy consent or ad preference prompts may appear within the app (depending on region and Google requirements)

Website (www.orientsmile.com)

This site is a purely static online reading website for Chinese classical classics, requiring no registration or login. We have not deployed any advertising scripts on the website.

Google Analytics (Website Visit Statistics)

The website uses Google Analytics (Measurement ID: G-EH0D6F9EP3) to understand page views, traffic sources, and general usage patterns. Google may collect technical information such as page URL, referrer, browser type, device type, approximate geographic location (inferred from IP address), and cookies. Please refer to the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

The website may store the following in your browser's localStorage:

• Language preference (os-text-variant)
• Reading display settings, such as theme and font size (os-reader-prefs)

The above data is stored solely in your browser and is not transmitted to Orient Smile. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages; during access, the hosting/CDN service provider may generate standard web server logs (e.g., IP address, browser type, request URL, timestamp). We do not use these logs for user profiling or cross-site tracking.

Pages may load Google Fonts to display typefaces; Google may process limited technical information accordingly. Please refer to Google's relevant policies.

Use of Information

We (and necessary third-party service providers) use the information for:

• Providing functions such as reading, search, bookmarks, annotations, text-to-speech, and chapter unlocking
• Remembering language and display preferences on the website
• Processing and fulfilling in-app purchases and subscriptions via Google Play
• Displaying and measuring advertisements via AdMob when enabled
• Maintaining service stability, handling user inquiries, and fulfilling legal obligations

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We only share necessary information with relevant service providers when necessary for operating the Services (e.g., Google's billing and advertising services), when required by law or regulation, or to protect the legitimate rights and interests of users and ourselves.

Your Choices

• App Local Data: Clear data via the system "App Info → Storage" or uninstall the app.
• Advertising: Limit personalization in Android ad settings; respond to in-app consent prompts (if any).
• In-App Purchases and Subscriptions: Manage via Google Play "Payments and subscriptions".
• Website Data: Clear site data / localStorage for this website in your browser settings.

Data Retention and Deletion

• App Local Data: This data is stored on your device for an extended period. You can completely delete this data at any time by clearing the app data in system settings or uninstalling the app. As we do not store your data on servers, there is no remote data requiring deletion request to us.
• Payment and Advertising Data Processed by Google: Retained according to Google's policies. You can manage or delete related advertising data through Android ad settings.
• Website localStorage: Retained until you actively clear it in your browser.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information within our control, but no method of transmission or storage can guarantee absolute security. As most reading data is stored on your device, please also pay attention to device lock screen, system updates, and backup settings.

Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for general readers interested in Chinese classical classics and traditional culture and are not specifically directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age specified in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us via the email address below, and we will take appropriate measures.

Cross-Border Processing

The Services may be accessed in different countries or regions. Third parties such as Google may process information on their global infrastructure, in accordance with their policies and applicable laws.

Policy Updates

We may update this Policy from time to time and modify the "Last Updated" date in the header. Significant changes may be described on this page or within the apps. Your continued use of the Services after the update signifies your understanding and acceptance of the revised Policy.
