No Clothes
Preface: "No Clothes" is a poem satirizing the use of troops. The people of Qin ridicule their ruler for loving warfare, frequently launching wars, yet unwilling to share peace and joy with the common people.
How can you say I have no clothes? I will share your battle robe. The king raises troops for war—hasten to mend my dagger-axe and spear, and I will face the foe with you.
How can you say I have no clothes? I will share your inner shirt. The king raises troops for war—hasten to mend my spear and halberd, and I will act together with you.
How can you say I have no clothes? I will share your lower garment. The king raises troops for war—hasten to mend my armor and weapons, and I will go with you.
"No Clothes" consists of three stanzas, each of five lines.
