Preface: "Zai Jian" is a poem about the feudal lords paying their first court visit to King Wu of Zhou’s temple.

The feudal lords came to pay court to the king, seeking the statutes and regulations of the state. The dragon banners fluttered in the wind, and the carriage bells and bit bells chimed crisply.

The bronze ornaments on the horse reins gleamed brightly, splendid and radiant.

He led the lords to pay homage to Illustrious Ancestor (King Wu of Zhou), performing sacrifices to fulfill filial piety. They prayed for long life, forever protecting the House of Zhou, and wished for boundless blessings.

The lords were bright and cultured. He bestowed upon them abundant good fortune, enabling them to inherit the light and enjoy great blessings.

"Zai Jian" has one stanza of fourteen lines.
