Three Hundred Poems
The Farm on the Wei River (Wang Wei: The Farm on the Wei River)
Chapter 6
The setting sun shines upon the village,
In deep lanes, cattle and sheep return.
An old man in the hamlet, mindful of the shepherd lads,
Leans on his staff, waiting by the brushwood gate.
Pheasants call, wheat sprouts and blossoms;
Silkworms slumber, mulberry leaves grow sparse.
Farmers shoulder their hoes and come back,
Meeting each other, they talk with lingering fondness.
Seeing such leisure and ease, my heart feels wistful,
And I chant the poem "Shi Wei."
