Three Hundred Poems
Frontier Song (Cicadas sing in the mulberry grove) (Wang Changling, No. 1)
Chapter 66
Cicadas chirp among the empty mulberry groves; along the Xiao Pass road in the eighth month, autumn chill has set in. Going out beyond the frontier and re-entering the passes, the cold deepens, and everywhere lie withered reeds. The wanderers from You and Bing provinces have always ended their days amid the dust and sand (or "facing the battlefield"). Do not emulate the wandering youths who boast of their purple-maned steeds' swiftness.
