Moon over the Fortress (Li Bai, Moon over the Fortress)

Chapter 90

The bright moon rises from the Heavenly Mountains, appearing and disappearing among the vast, misty clouds. A long wind sweeps across thousands of miles, blowing all the way past the Jade Gate Pass. The Han dynasty armies once marched out on the White Path, and the barbarian cavalry now prowl around the Blue Sea Bay. Since ancient times, on these battlegrounds, no one is seen returning alive. The garrison soldiers gaze at the frontier scenery from afar, their faces often etched with sorrow as they long for home. Their wives, on this night when the bright moon hangs high, lean against their towers and sigh, surely without cease.
